i have a gorgeous friend….

… who is like the pied piper.. seriously. her name is sumi and is quite capable of talking the leg off a chair [she knows this and jokes about it herself]. i love her dearly. we get along really well, partly because i listen! i don’t talk so much [she knows this and jokes about it herself].

getting back to the pied piper description. sumi is truly AMAZING with children. she and her partner have a gorgeous little girl, rubi. she’s six and is quite the clever chickadee. i guess this is because her mum can talk the leg off a chair. anyway… sumi is most patient and caring, one of those people who, when asked by a six year old, why does the sun shine, for example, sumi will explain in great detail [in a child friendly way] or manage to change the subject without said child realising it. she has the knack.. they love her.

she may kill me when she reads this, but i’m not fussed at this point.. it’s my turn to talk!

so.. back to the story. early this year sumi approached me with, ‘what do you think about photographing a few kinder groups?’. i am, by nature, quite shy, and not the most confident person. i umm’d and ahhh’d at the thought. could i do it? would i be good enough? sumi would be my partner. sumi would chat with the kids, grab their attention, play, laugh, joke with them and i’d click in the background incognito. we had nothing to lose. we gave it a go.. and to cut a long story short, it was a success!

i received a phone call from a lovely woman a month later. we had been recommended to jane, who runs another kinder/day care centre. our second kinder gig went ahead a couple of months ago. sumi was in her element… while i clicked in the background. we are a good team.

the proofs were handed out, the orders came in and the photos were delivered a week later. jane was so pleased with how we worked, she asked us to come back next year. we are very happy and it was such a pleasure. all the carers were wonderful, friendly and obliging. we photographed 60 children over 4 days, children ranging from 6 months to 5 years. they were all so gorgeous.. an absolute delight to photograph.

thank you so much for having us jane. sumi and i enjoyed every moment.

take a peek…. you’ll see how gorgeous these little cherubs are.

a huge thank you to the parents who gave me permission to share their child/ren’s images here. i am very grateful.

Terrific photos!!! So much nicer than those usual “studio pose” type ones. Every single one of these is beautiful!
