classic rides

this post is, i admit, a few months late but i think worth the wait if you’re a lover of classic rides, especially their details.

josh is a car fanatic, more specifically holdens and 80’s holdens at that. i’m very proud to say he’s working as a mechanic and he’s in his second year apprenticeship. he loves his job. mark and i wouldn’t say no to pretty much any ride circa 50’s, 60’s and early 70’s… and chich’s favourite? give her a new mini cooper or fiat 500 and she’ll be more than happy.

at 22, i bought my first car. she was a white semi-automatic, a 1971 vw bettle convertible. the sardine can lid type convertible, the type you manually roll down into the straps which press duds to hold the rolled roof in place. she was our wedding car and of course featured in our wedding photos.

four years on and it was proving difficult to manoeuvre a baby capsule in and out of a two door, not to mention limited space, if any, for a pram… sadly we replaced beetle with a holden station wagon shortly after josh was born. i do miss her, our plan is to one day buy a late 60’s beetle… one day.

all that said, on sunday 08/02/15, a picnic was prepared and the four of us ventured out to hanging rock’s annual picnic to admire some classic rides. this event started as a small ‘club event’ and has now become the largest single day classic motoring event in victoria. it attracts more than 2600 display vehicles, all of which are +25 years old.

it was a picnic perfect day, a light breeze and deceivingly warm in the sun.

i wore my camera to capture the sexy details these classic rides ooze, the polished chrome and fluffy dice. from holdens to fords to buicks and cadillacs. huge sighs* at every turn.

I’m a little partial to the Ford Galaxie 500. My first car was a 1967 navy blue and white Ford Galaxie 500 that we brought back from the Philippines. My mom and dad upgraded and I got the beast. She served me well in my days right out of the house. I think she might still be somewhere on the back 40…
