grey day turned blue
melbourne’s habitants should, in theory, be quite used to it. yesterday was a summer’s day in spring at 27°C to be exact. that, in my humble opinion, is pretty warm and on the cusp of being too warm. so, it was a shock to the system when i woke this morning to see grey skies, cold winds and persistant rain. i should, in theory be quite used to it, however, it gets me every time. we all know melbourne is well known for its ‘four seasons in one day’ [not to mention very cosmopolitan, fashionable, design savvy and one of the coffee capitals of the world].
anyway.. i mention the weather because today was the Made ‘n’ Thornbury Market. as a stall holder, i had jumped to conclusions and assumed it would be rather quiet. i shouldn’t jump to conclusions. it was a great
day! people came in waves and sales for m2matiz went extremely well. i received some wonderful feedback and saw familiar and friendly faces. thank you for coming [buying and ordering] wendy, george, ingrid, mary, mum and dad. thank you everyone who braved the cold and visited, said hello and bought gift cards, gift tags, notebooks and t.lighthauses. i am always grateful.
here’s my little corner…
my new product prototype, the luMierebox snuck in quietly and was on display today [thank you dad xo]. a plug in plywood box lights up any chosen image from my gallery [i see your gorgeous children light up too]. the luMierebox comes flatpacked with instructions for very easy assembly and is beautifully wrapped in 100% recycled packaging, stamped and tied with string. additional images from my gallery can also be purchased as individual perspex sheets [without the box], allowing you to swap and change images to suit any mood in any interior at any time. i’m also visualising two or three stacked on top of eachother.. perhaps creating a story by selecting themed images such as urban or street art.
detailed photos will soon be uploaded here once all the elements are in place, packaging supplies arrive and the web page glitch is amended. i’m quietly excited and can’t wait! .. orders taken at any time!
enough about m2matiz… the Made ‘n’ Thornbury Market is always full of talented makers. from babywares, to stationery, to hairclips and cushions, skirts and brooches. i was on my own today and didn’t really get a chance to look around for as long as i would have liked.. but i did sneak off in a quiet moment and bought a couple of little [and big] hand crafted goodies.
louise at buttons by loulou makes the most gorgeous fabric covered accessories. buttons, hairclips, headbands, cufflinks, badges and you guessed it.. bookmarks. i bought myself one, not because i’m a reader necessarily [those who know me, know i'm not but have always aspired to be] but because i love the idea and
i just love text in any way shape or form.
anything vintage is trés cool and these tags also caught my eye.. a set of five, using vintage magazine cut outs. hand made by stitch-in-time. amcoalby@hotmail.com
right on closing at 3.00pm, when we were all packing up, i spied this beauty while its mate was ready packed. i purchased both the cushions bright enough to turn a grey sky blue. sure enough, at 3.30pm the clouds parted and the sun beamed bright and warm. did i mention four seasons in one day? these lovelies were hand crafted by joanne howden and she can be contacted on [03] 9489 2030.
so.. that was my grey day turned blue. a fabulous day for m2matiz and i look forward to the next Made ‘n’ Thornbury Market on Saturday 11 December from 10.00-3.00pm. I’d love to see you there. mx
