after our beautiful blur and sad goodbyes to k here, we checked into our hotel room in LA. i made a phone call to a dear friend, s, and within an hour we were driving to the hollywood hills to visit her. aside from it being almost pitch black, parallel parking a manual vw beetle [in between cars] on that hollywood hill was quite a feat! it took a while but c did it! i know i would’ve rolled right …

it was a beautiful contrast to feel the warmth of the southern californian sun the day after returning from our chilly new york escapade.
with thanks to soul sister c’s beautiful and generous friends, s and v, we went horseriding. v has the most beautiful property where her family and horses reside.

‘the big apple’ ?.. there are many theories but not one definitive answer as to why new york city got this nick name. interesting find below.. if a little vague!
One is that it derives from the translation by jazz musicians of the Manzana area as ‘apple orchard’. Another explanation has it that jazz musician’s slang for engagement was ‘apple’ and that a date in New York was the ‘big apple’. The phrase was certainly current in jazz music circles …
